We understand how overwhelming it can be to downsize or liquidate an estate.  We are here to make that transition as painless as possible.  Here are few pro tips to assist you in your journey.

  1. Remove all personal papers and documents. If we discover any missed items during our time in the residence, we will put them aside for you in a secure location.  If you wish for a shredding service that comes to the home, here is an option:
    1. Document Shredding | Confidential Personal Document Shredding – Pellitteri Waste Systems
  2. Remove all medications from the residence. Here is a link to local med drop boxes:
    1. MedDrop | Safe Communities Madison, WI
  3. Go through the home with family and mark items that will not be included in the sale clearly and/or remove them entirely prior to meeting with a professional. We want to make sure nothing important is left behind but if there are things you cannot find, let us know!  We have been known to find the most obscure family treasures from a 1950s pink bikini to a missing wedding ring… we have found it all.
  4. Who you hire for your estate sale is important.  Not all companies are created equal, nor do they offer the same level of service. Do your due diligence by:
    1. Researching estate sale companies at the Better Business Bureau of Wisconsin.
      1. Local BBB | BBB Serving Wisconsin | Better Business Bureau
    2. Going to one of the sales listed by the company you are considering. Is the sale staged well?  Is the sale run efficiently? Is everything priced?  These are things you will want to consider.
    3. If you cannot visit in person, view current and upcoming sale listings on the company website.
    4. Ask your real estate professional for their recommendations.
  1. One of our missions is to keep as much as possible out of the landfill. We sell everything in the home from clothing to chemicals/cleaners to items in your junk drawer.  Little items add up fast so please don’t donate or toss anything until you speak with an estate sale professional.
